W090905 Advanced DHCP Options
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is typically used to hand out IP address information to network hosts. Typically most people sue DHCP for assigning IP address, subnet mask and default gateway to client work stations though it can do much more. DHCP is configured on the default gateway or on a server residing on the LAN. To enable search option 119 for Windows Server 2003 DHCP server
- Open DHCP. (To open DHCP, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click DHCP.)
- In the console tree, click the applicable DHCP server.
- On the Action menu, click Set Predefined Options.
- In Predefined Options and Values, click Add (Option Class Standard), and then click OK.
- In Name, type the string DNS Search List.
- Set Code to 119 and Data Type string (it is not an array), and then click OK.
- Right-click Scope Options, select Configure Options, and then check 119 DNS Search List.
- Enter a list of domain suffixes in your organization, delimited by a semicolon (for example, esubnet.com;dev.esubnet.com;corp.esubnet.com).
- Click OK.
